Meet US in St. Louis: Universal Standard Hits the Road for Model Search
Universal Standard is on the road. The woman's clothing brand serving sizes 10-28 that calls New York City home is crisscrossing the States in a series of pop-up shops and collaborating with Nordstrom (the first time US is working with a major retail partner) and The Lions Model Management for a nationwide model search.
The winner(s) of the search will be featured in an upcoming Universal Standard
fashion campaign.
"We decided we were going to go across the nation and take a look at where we might open a pop-up shop or showroom to understand the topography of our business," says Alexandra Waldman, co-founder and CCO, Universal Standard. "We thought it would be cool to find some faces that are a reflection of new beauty: Edgy, quicky, much more inclusive and diverse beauty. We thought it was a good time to see who this new American woman beauty is, and we partnered with Lions Model Management and decided to do it across the country."
On Monday, October 23, Universal Standard will be in St. Louis at Third Degree Glass Factory from 12pm-8pm. St. Both Waldman and US co-founder and CEO Polina Veksler will be there to meet customers and conduct Q&As to provide more insight into the brand aesthetic and philosophy. "We're stopping [in cities] where we have a lot of our customers," says Waldman. "We wanted to meet as many people as we could. And St. Louis was one of those places."
The model search is just one of the new inititives Universal Standard launched this year, like its Universal Fit Liberty (which allows customers to exchange pieces for free if their clothing size changes within a year of purchase) this past spring. "It allows you to enjoy the shopping experience by removing that anxiety about, 'oh, you know, I just started a diet' or 'I became a vegan yesterday,' or whatever we tell ourselves that tends to bully you into thinking that the 'you' that you are right now isn't quite as good as the 'you' you're gonna be very soon."
