Fit Mom Now Has Excuses...and Humility
Remember Fit Mom? Maria Kang's photo of her in workout gear with her three children, titled "What's Your Excuse" went viral three years ago for all the wrong reasons. The photo was supposed to be #fitspo, but ended up as another example of body shaming. And, it turns out, she now has a few excuses of her own.
In an interview with People, Kang admits to gaining ten pounds when life got in the way: “Like most moms, my hair is always in a bun, my life is always on the go and my fitness goals are always one of my last priorities. I struggled with motivation, I’ve gained some weight and am experiencing difficult marital challenges. I let the world consume me this last year. I let events, people and things influence my perception of myself and I literally felt broken.”
Recently, she did a new photoshoot with her sister-in-law, and, despite the weight gain, is still the picture of fitness goals in a bikini. But now she's a lot more humble. “I’ve gained 10 lbs. since my ‘What’s Your Excuse’ photo and I’m not hiding from that fact. I want to empower others to step in front of the camera and be unapologetic, thankful and proud of where they are today."
