New Mag Aims to Empower Girls
Kazoo is a quarterly magazine aimed at young girls ages 5-10, and, surprisingly, the only one on the market catering to this demographic.
The magazine launch was spearheaded by magazine vet Erin Bried, who was inspired to create a magazine like Kazoo after a trip the the newsstand with her five-year-old daughter left them empty-handed. A Kickstarter campaign in April gave Bried the funds to work on the the premiere issue . BTW-Kazoo hit its goal in 30 days, the most notable journalism campaign in crowdfunding history.
No figure flaw callout here: The editorial in Kazoo will inspire girls "to be strong, smart, fierce and, above all, true to themselves.'" All of the stories in the magazine will be created by top female artists, explorers, scientists, chefs, athletes, activists, and writers. Features will include science experiments, comics; art projects; recipes and interviews with inspiring women, a vast improvement from a fashion spread with figure flattering swimsuits.
