Study: Fashion Ads Still Lack Inclusion

While plus-size models grabbed headlines this year, they aren't booking ad campaigns. Plus size models only make up 1.4 percent of this spring's ad campaign diversity, according to a report on The Fashion Spot.

The study tracked 422 model appearances, and discovered only six plus-size models were cast in fashion Spring 2016 campaigns. No plus-size model of color were featured in mainstream campaign ads or billboards this season. Five out of the six plus-size models were cast in mass market plus size labels ads, the exception being American Eagle Outfitters’ Aerie.

The plus size models featured in the campaigns are names you're familair with: Ashley Graham, Tara Lynn, Denise Bidot and Barbie Ferreira. Actor Patricia Arquette appeared in Marina Rinaldi’s campaign.

Inclusion is still a huge problem in fashion overall. In 236 fashion print campaigns for Spring 2016, 78.2 percent of the models in the ads were white, 8.3 percent were Black, 4 percent were Asian models and Latina models at 3.8 percent.
